Why All Business Leaders Should Celebrate Their Support Staff This Admin Professionals’ Day

As a business leader, will you be celebrating the people who make your life easier this Friday?

The first Friday of May marks Administrative Professionals’ Day, a day that EST10 excitedly anticipates each year. For us, it’s like Christmas Day and we love to put a lot into it.

Recognising the valued work of office support staff in any business is crucial to motivating the people behind the scenes who keep the business ball rolling. The latest workforce data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics states that of the 11,902,300 employed people in Australia, 1,704,400 of them are admin professionals. That’s more than 14% of the Australian workforce dedicated to the smooth and efficient running of our collective businesses.

These admin professionals head to the office each day to support business leaders across all industries and without their dedication, many leaders would be at a complete loss. But recognition and reward for those people hasn’t always been in place in many organisations and often, managers or leaders are so busy it can fall by the wayside. Think of all the people in your company who help you achieve your company goals – your EA, PA, office manager. What would you do without them?

We know we would struggle without our admin professionals (and finding the best admin staff for others is our whole business!) so at EST10, we love to recognise our support staff with flowers, coffee, lunches and huge thanks. Not every company is in the habit of celebrating this day but recognition of a job well done goes a long way in motivating your people and I believe it is simply good practice to encourage proper recognition, not just on this one special day but throughout the year for anyone who works with you.

Research from BambooHR in the US in March 2016 found that 94% of employees who receive positive recognition from a manager on a daily basis say they are satisfied in their current role. In comparison, only 40% of employees report they are satisfied in their current role when recognition is received a few times a year. Providing feedback is just too important to leave to an annual review.

We’re big believers in continuous feedback and recognition of our employees and love to encourage other businesses to get on board with celebrating Admin Professionals’ Day. With a bit of luck, this will inspire an increase in the overall regularity of recognition being provided.

To celebrate all admin professionals in Sydney, EST10 will be doing giveaways on Friday May 6th in Martin Place and handing out free coffee throughout the city. You can grab one at:

  • Janus – 1 Blight St
  • Avenue on Chifley – 2 Chifley Square
  • Grand Duk – Grosvenor Place, 225 George St

If you really want to thank your support team in a big way, why not nominate your EA in our competition. We’re rewarding one lucky EA with a trip to San Francisco! I can’t think of a more amazing way to thank your outstanding EA for their hard work than by nominating them to win this exciting prize. Who knows, we may have even helped you find them and would love to know how they’re helping keep your office running!

Two runner-up EAs will receive tickets to the EA Leadership Forum to be inspired by the likes of Jan Jones (author of The CEO’s Secret Weapon) and Valerie Morones (EA to Bill Gates). This will be an amazing opportunity for motivation, engagement and learning for any EA wanting to build a stellar career. EST10 is the only recruitment partner for this event and we can’t wait for its arrival in August.

If you want to nominate an outstanding EA, office manager or administrator, head to https://www.est10.com.au/sanfrancisco. Entries are open to all EAs in Sydney and nominations close 12pm Tuesday 17th May.
