Our Favourite Fictional EA/PAs; Lost Without Them Or Just Lost?

Whether you love them or love to hate them, you can’t deny that a hilarious PA is often the key to a hit TV show or movie, just as a talented real life version is the key to a smooth-sailing office. We know we would be lost without our favourite EAs & PAs, whether we are talking about our real ones or our fictional ones… although, some of our TV and movie picks are more likely to help you get lost than make your working life easier!

Just as we select our EA/PA candidates for clients, here we have selected some top talent; our favourites to watch and draw inspiration from – whether that is ‘To Do’s’ or ‘Not To Do’s’. Who tops your list?

Joan Holloway, Mad Men (Christina Hendricks)

As head secretary at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, Joan Holloway runs a tight ship and keeps the Mad Men in check.

Pam Beesly, The Office (Jenna Fischer)

Receptionist/Secret Assistant to the Regional Manager at Dunder Mifflin, Pam became more assertive in her role and progressed to Office Manager over the course of the show.

Andrea Sachs, The Devil Wears Prada (Anne Hathaway)

Working as Executive Assistant to Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine looked like no picnic but once she committed to her role, Andrea was a shoe-in for a trip to Paris Fashion Week.

Karen Walker, Will & Grace (Megan Mullally)

Karen Walker’s shrill, nasal voice became her trademark on Will & Grace. She may not have been the best at turning up to work but she would certainly entertain our office.

Grace, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (Edie McClug)

Grace is the long-suffering PA at Ferris Bueller’s high school with an amazing 60s work hair-do (although the film was set in the 80s). We love her commitment to her style!

Janine Melnitz, Ghostbusters (Annie Potts)

As the Ghostbusters’ PA, Janine Melnitz keeps the team organized and ensures everything runs smoothly at the firehouse. Though she mostly works behind the scenes, she dons her own Proton Pack to save the day when the situation calls for it, as every good PA or EA does.

Pepper Potts, Iron Man (Gwyneth Paltrow)

Virginia ‘Pepper’ Potts becomes a force to be reckoned with as Iron Man’s right-hand woman. We wouldn’t mess with her!

April Ludgate, Parks & Recreation (Aubrey Plaza)

April’s possibly not the ideal PA for Ron Swanson; she never answers the phone and memos go straight into the trash. She’s also a fan of scheduling meetings for March 31, a day she mistakenly doesn’t think exists.

Betty Suarez, Ugly Better (America Ferrera)

Smart, sweet and hard-working Assistant Betty Suarez goes on a journey to find her inner beauty – difficult whilst surrounded by tall skinny models at a fashion magazine. But Betty doesn’t let this stop her or her positive attitude towards her work.

Sue Wilson, Veep (Sufe Bradsaw)

Sue Wilson acts as the first Assistant to the Vice-President. Her day-to-day role includes scheduling and cancelling meetings, keeping Jonah out of the office and making sure the VP is on time for her upcoming appointments. A direct and straightforward person, she doesn’t tolerate nonsense and is straight to the point.
