Personal assistants provide indispensable support to both individuals and households.

Your duties will vary depending on the individual or family the personal assistant is supporting, however, personal assistants are generally responsible for personal/home administration including household management and travel. While corporate executive assistants may take on some personal duties as part of their role, there is indeed a place for a “true” private personal assistant who looks after personal duties entirely.

What does a Personal Assistant do?

The role of a personal assistant can include a myriad of duties but some of the key daily duties you can be expected to execute are:

  • Supervising household e.g. staff, chefs, nannies etc.
  • Coordinate with family members and schools
  • Planning holidays, events and house moves
  • Manage properties, cars, horses, boats etc.
  • Occasional travel
  • Running personal errands
  • Overseeing finances
  • Flexibility to be on call 24/7
  • In some cases coordinate with an EA to seamlessly manage personal and professional life

What is the difference between a temporary and a permanent Personal Assistant job?

There isn’t too much difference in the roles and responsibilities of temporary and permanent personal assistant jobs. Although with a temporary personal assistant job you need to be able to jump straight into the role and hit the ground running! If you’re looking for permanent or temporary work, do get in touch.

What are Personal Assistants also known as?

The term personal assistant is often abbreviated to PA. A personal assistant may also be referred to as private PA, lifestyle PA or private household PA. 

In some businesses, the terms executive assistant and personal assistant (PA) are used interchangeably for junior executive assistant positions; however, the executive assistants will usually only support in a business capacity.

How much do Personal Assistants earn in Sydney?

Personal assistants in Sydney typically earn from $65,000 to $150,000+ depending on the level of experience. And in some cases, accommodation, cars, gym memberships and health insurance are also included. 

All salaries/rates are based on NSW/VIC positions and are exclusive of superannuation. Further, the below rates do not include additional bonuses or the value of non-monetary benefits.

Junior – $65-75k/Yearly salary, $30-40/Hourly rate

Intermediate – $75-90k/Yearly salary, $40-45/Hourly rate

Senior – $90-150k+/Yearly salary, $45-55/Hourly rate

How much do Personal Assistants earn in Melbourne?

Personal assistants in Melbourne typically earn from $65,000 to $130,000+  depending on the level of experience. As with Sydney, in some cases, accommodation, cars, gym memberships and health insurance are also included. 

All salaries/rates are based on NSW/VIC positions and are exclusive of superannuation. Further, the below rates do not include additional bonuses or the value of non-monetary benefits.

Junior – $60-70k/Yearly salary, $28-35/Hourly rate

Intermediate – $75-90k/Yearly salary, $35-45/Hourly rate

Senior – $90-130k+/Yearly salary, $45-55/Hourly rate

What is a typical career pathway for Personal Assistants?
